Season Finales have become rather important to episodic television. A spectacle is now a standard expectation, which often comes at the expense of a good story. Doctor Who finales, in particular, have become bigger and more grandiose in nature. Stephen Moffat had to write an episode that fulfilled expectations that he set up when he introduced Clara “The Impossible Girl” in Asylum of the Daleks. Why does Clara keep popping up through time? What connection does she have to the Doctor? Are these hints about the past really building to an incredible 50th? The Name of the Doctor is not a perfect way to answer those questions but it is very effective and quite a bit of fun. Spoilers ahead….. Read the rest of this entry »

ImageMay 7th saw the release, by Disney-Hyperion, of Eoin Colfer‘s newest tale, W.A.R.P, or Witness Anonymous Relocation Program, book 1: The Reluctant Assassin (“…sounds like they threw in Aanonymous to fit the name…[or they'd just] have WRP.”). An excellent following to the famous Artemis Fowl series, this next blockbuster is defined, by Colfer, as “Oliver Twist meets The Matrix,” and I have to agree.

Young F.B.I. agent Chevron Savano is sent to London, on an assignment that is meant to doom her career. Instead, she finds herself in the middle of a time-jumping tale between present day, and 1898 Victorian, London. Partnered with Riley, the reluctant assassin, the pair search to find Chevie a way home. Riley’s mentor, Albert Garrick, is the one to stay away from, whose own travel between time has caused certain anomaly’s in him, making him scarier than he already was.  Read the rest of this entry »

Whovians across the ‘verse are familiar with Regeneration, the most brilliant way to replace your lead ever devised. Regeneration is a biological process that allows a dying Timelord to change physical form which brings about new behaviors or it can be seen as how the show replaces the actor portraying the Doctor. Since 1963, eleven different, yet same, Doctors have traveled in the TARDIS having adventures and thrilling us all. Some fans of the series have expressed concern about the future of the show since Timelords only have twelve regenerations. This means only two more actors will play the Doctor and the series will come to an end. That would be true except the regeneration rules are more fluid than most fans realize. GFTHunters_1_cover DigitalGFT  – HUNTERS: The Shadowlands #1
Written by Raven Gregory
Publisher: Zenescope
Covers by Anthony Spay and Paulo Siqueira
Price:  $2.99

Our five hunters have reunited. Sela, Van Helsing, Roman, Elija, and Masumi all find each other in a place called The Shadowlands. Honestly, the thought of a place called The Shadowlands automatically makes me feel like sticking around is a bad idea, but in their case really they have no choice. This issue follows the group individually a little as well as all together in a way to really set up the entire story arch, and draws on personal faults and strengths. Roman is there for who knows how long, talking to himself all Castaway like, and seems reluctant to join the group. The others get separated, tracked, attacked. There are a flurry of things that could possibly go wrong here given their personalities and backgrounds. Read the rest of this entry »
