Rubber Review

When is a killer tire movie… well… kinda not? When it’s Rubber.

I was really looking forward to seeing Rubber. According to the promos, Rubber is about a tire (named Robert, naturally) that comes to life and becomes a serial killer. A movie with that premise could have been played totally straight. It could have been played for comedy. However, the movie that I saw is only partly what the advertisements had claimed it to be. I can just imagine the meeting at Syfy headquarters: “Say, Thor’s coming out.” “Really? We’ve got some real crap Thor movies we can use to waste an evening.” “That’s perfect for our audience.”

Yet again The Syfy Channel barely rises to meet the bar that they’ve set so very very low and aired a Thor-themed double feature of Almighty Thor and Thor: Hammer of the Gods on Saturday night. (more…)
