Magic: The Gathering – Theros Game Day this weekend!

Wizards of the Coast is continuing its unprecedented, block-long in-store play experienced called Hero’s Path with Theros Game Day in stores this weekend (10/19 – 10/20). Through a series of nine quests, players will be called to become heroes by participating in puzzles and battles to earn a unique Hero Card after each quest. As you collect each card throughout the Hero’s Path, you will grow in power and become ever-increasingly more prepared for the raging conflicts at the end of each arc.

2014 Duels of the Planeswalkers Expansion XBox 360 Review

A couple weeks ago, the very same weekend that Theros was released, another Magic the Gathering product was released as well, the expansion for the 2014 Duels of the Planeswalker on the Xbox 360 and other platforms. With this expansion we get 5 new playable decks, additions to the campaign, and more challenge matches. For the Xbox 360 the expansion is $4.99 and you will need the main game to run this.

I have to admit I have not finished the campaign mode so I only got a taste of the new addition to the campaign. And the new decks were nice but not as much fun as the green deck I have been running and unlocking cards for since I started playing the game. Once I finish the campaign mode with the green deck I will play through again and give the new decks a run thru. They look good, with one looking better then the rest but I will find out for sure soon.

Magic the Gathering Theros Review

We recently saw the release of the latest expansion set for Magic the Gathering, Theros. The world of Theros is heavily inspired by the myths of Greek and Roman history, a subject I know and love. Many of the cards in this set, 249 cards in total, are brand new to the game with a few reprints from previous sets. With Theros we see the release of many new game mechanics and card types. I wll review these cards and mechanics in two ways; in limited format, the Theros set being played by itself, and in Standard format.

Magic the Gathering: Time To Replace My Favorite Cards

With the release of Theros this week many Standard format Magic players are now cycling out cards from M13, Innistrad, Dark Ascension, and Avacyn Restored from their decks and maybe even their collections. After the pre release tournaments this past weekend I have started redesigning my decks so they remain legal for standard format play. I thought I would share some of my favorite cards that are cycling out and what I am going to try to replace them with.

I currently have two decks I alternate playing with; a red deck and a white/green deck. There may be many great cards in Theros that could be great replacements but until I get my hands on the full set and play around with them I won’t be sure. Many of the replacements here are from cards already in standard play. Here are the changes for my red deck:
